VS
Well the last 2 weeks we have figured out that Hulk Hogan is a better worker than John Cena and that CM Punk is a better promo than Bret Hart, though both were close battles. But now that we’ve trademarked those two blog types as We Talk Wrestling semi regular features it’s time to do the same and turn our attention to another common argument amongst wrestling fans, deciding who the biggest douche bag is. We have a ton to choose from, but we’re starting with a couple of men who most everyone would consider amongst the top, the man who rules the world Sid Vicious VS the leader of the one warrior nation the Ultimate Warrior. Out of these 2 monumental douches let’s decide who’s the biggest
Arrogance
Let’s be honest, all the great wrestlers have a degree of arrogance, its part of what makes them tick and succeed. But there’s a difference between believing in yourself to a fault and carrying yourself like your better than others or than you truly are. Both of these men have pissed off their peers with their arrogant attitude backstage, and that takes a lot with how many arrogant guys there is to stand out. My initial reaction to who is more arrogant goes to Warrior. Just listening to him say he was in many of the greatest matches of all time with Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Rick Rude is enough to point out his failure to understand his place and why something succeeded or didn’t. He’s also often accused the people interviewing him of being marks, which is just an arrogant douche move, but in the end at least an argument can be made of his place in the industry as one of the most important figures. If you were to ask people who should go in the WWE Hall of Fame that isn’t there Warrior’s name often comes up. Sid not so much. Warrior simply was the bigger and more important star. WWE saw fit to produce a DVD on him with no word of any consideration given to one of Sid (who’d want it anyway?)
Sid on the other hand has compared himself to Austin and The Rock, said he was hurt because he didn’t work with Hogan at his height in terms of his drawing power, has said much like Hogan he drew with many different people, and also said that in terms of drawing he place himself at # 1 or # 2. Huh?
Sid gets the point as most arrogant for that.
Stupidity
Let’s be honest, Sid isn’t the brightest guy. I mean it’s widely reported that he actually soiled himself during his Wrestlemania 13 main event match with The Undertaker. If that’s true, and it appears to be, how The Undertaker didn’t wretch and lose his lunch I’ll never know. I mean that dude is a true pro considering the numerous tombstone spots. Other epic Sid stupid moments include his promo on Kevin Nash and Scott Hall where he accidentally told them he has half the brain they do while trying to insult them, or any other promo where he loses his train of thought and starts to ramble, i.e. most of them. And there’s his infamous spot where he’s cutting a promo, screws up, then asks to do it again only to be told they’re live. The man is as bright as the bottom of a cave.
So how can Warrior actually compare to this? Honestly, his IQ seems to me to be much higher than Sid’s, which makes him doing stupid stuff stand out even more. Just look at what he did when he had some creative control over his storylines, like the Papa Shango curse stuff in WWE, or the stupid magic Warrior stuff in WCW. Not to mention defending steroid use or writing a comic book where he rapes Santa. Yes folks, he actually did that. I give this one to Warrior, for being stupid when he’s not actually all that stupid, where as Sid can’t help his stupidity.
Point goes to Warrior
Unprofessional
Let’s be honest, just about every thing we’re talking about in this blog is an example of being unprofessional. Some new examples, Warrior apparently held up the then WWF for more money right before the Summerslam 1991 main event. He opened a wrestling school called Warrior University taking people’s money with no attempt to run it seriously. Plus Warrior was implying he could teach people to wrestle. He no showed numerous events with the excuses drug test failure, disputes over pay, not being in the world title picture and grieving his father’s passing who he had no contact with in over a decade all being used as reasons for given for his unprofessional behavior.
Sid has plenty of examples too, like not being safe with who he’s working with in the ring, like dropping Brian Pillman on his head in WCW as a prime example. If you’re doing a dangerous move not taking proper care of who you’re working with is as unprofessional as it gets. No showing dates because you’re more interested in playing softball than fulfilling your bookings at the height of your career is also ridiculous. To top it all off, now that he’s older, wiser, and not as much in the spotlight he’s still constantly no showing Indie events with excuses like he slept in and missed his plane.
For failing to learn and his unprofessional behavior hurting who he’s in the ring with the one goes to Sid
Selfish
WWE has said Sid was let go for failing a drug test in the past. Is this selfish? Yes. It’s also part of the culture very much of the time in the industry that continues today. It’s also on the list of Warrior’s offenses. No showing dates for almost any reason is also selfish, showing little regard for fans and your peers and only concern for your self. Both Warrior and Sid did that many times.
In 1991 WCW and WWF wrestlers were both in a bar, a rare case of running the same area at the same time. Sid was running down everyone, bragging about how much money he was making and how he was going to be the next Hulk Hogan, etc. Here he was with other guys busting there humps to get ahead and all this selfish prick could do was run them down and put himself over. Brian Pillman, who was with WCW and 2/3 Sid’s size stood up to him and threatened to beat him up. Sid left but not before saying he was coming back with a weapon to even the score. Unfortunately all that the big dummy could find was a squeegee from a local gas station, which he brought back in swinging in an attempt to intimidate, much to the amusement of everyone in the bar. This embarrassment never would have happened if Sid respected others and wasn’t so selfish in the 1st place.
Of course it’s not like Warrior ever showed respect for who he was working with either. He took a limo to the shows and had a private dressing room, never interacting with the other boys or putting them over or thanking him for working so hard to make him look good. This is one of the many reasons everyone who worked with him seems to hate him. I mean, if absolutely no one who’s interacted with you likes you at some point it’s not them, it’s you, right? Well not to Warrior. Even Hulk Hogan would play cards with the boys on occasion and shake everyone’s hands, but not Warrior. One great story is Triple H complaining about Warrior asking him what his finish is so he can kick out of it at their Wrestlemania XII match. That is selfish, especially the way Warrior did it, but the kicker to me is that Scott Hall (likely a future competitor in biggest douche) reportedly said the exact same thing to Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit backstage at WCW events, and word is while telling it to Benoit that Hall took his pecker out and pissed on Benoit’s leg. That’s even worse than what Warrior did to Triple H. Tremendous because how angry this made Hunter when Warrior did it to him but Hall is one of his best friends. To me though the ultimate story of ultimate selfishness comes from Bret Hart’s autobiography on pages 257-58 where he describes how in Omaha a make a wish foundation kid with a shaved head and Warrior make up on in his dying days was made to wait for hours to meet his hero who chose this one time to hide in the dressing room with the boys in an attempt to avoid this boy and his family. Disgusting. I’m not sure if he ever did meet the boy, but even if he did he made that child and his family wait for hours.
For that the point on most selfish goes to Warrior.
Harmful
Warrior was clumsy in the ring, and stiff. This stiffness was at 1st chalked up to him being clumsy and green in the ring by the guys who dreaded working with him, but it soon became obvious he was doing it because he felt he was a big star and it made him look good so he could get away with it and no one could say anything. One guy working with him, Rick Rude, had enough, and asked him to lighten up. Warrior got in his face and told Rude “I don’t have to, because I’m the Warrior”. So Rude decked him. Warrior was said to be far less stiff in his matches with Rude after that. But apparently the idiot didn’t learn his lesson, because according to Bobby “The Brain” Heenan when he was working with Andre The Giant he apparently ran at him hard with a clothesline, then harder the next night, then harder still, until Andre had enough and one night just put his fist out which Warrior ran into a high rate of speed knocking himself out. Moron. Still, none of this is truly as harmful as continuing to spread bigotry, telling students at a University of Connecticut speech that Homosexuals aren’t as legitimate as Heterosexuals, which had one woman cry out in shock to his offensive statement and he said “don’t have an orgasm on me honey” followed by his famous lines about “the queers” that “Queering don’t make the world work“. That same night, upon being asked a question by a student from the Middle East, Warrior told him to “get a towel.” Just unreal.
How could you possibly be more harmful than that? Well how about killing an innocent little animal. You see the story goes that Sid Vicious used to carry a squirrel around with him. Why? I don’t know, Sid seems so mentally stable. Anyway, a couple of wrestlers bet him he couldn’t stuff the squirrel down his trunks and keep it there for 60 seconds. Sid, reluctant as he was, eventually gave in to peer pressure. After about half a minute, Sid screamed out in pain, then fell face forward on the ground crushing the poor little squirrel. Sid promptly went to the doctor to get a rabies shot and stitches on his genitals. Try explaining that to the nurse at check in. While that story is funny, there’s another near death from Sid that isn’t nearly as much, and that of course is the incident with Arn Anderson. Apparently Sid and Arn had been drinking at a bar and Sid kept telling Arn how he had never drawn any money, which didn’t exactly go over well with Arn. This led to a scuffle in the bar that was broken up, though Arn reportedly was getting the upper hand here. Now big old crazy Sid just couldn’t leave well enough alone, so Sid, who apparently despite being 6’8 and 300 lbs is afraid to fight another man without grabbing a weapon first, found a pair of scissors and went to Arn’s room where he did the old Pearl Harbour job on Arn. The fight spilled out into the hallway of the English hotel where they were staying which became covered in blood. Arn had suffered 20 stab wounds and managed to get the scissors from Sid enough to stab Sid 4 times. 2 Cold Scorpio appeared on the scene and pulled them apart, luckily as if he hadn’t this would have likely ended in the death of one of these 2, most likely Arn. Both were rushed to the hospital, Sid was fired, despite the fact that he was about to win the WCW World Heavyweight Title since vignettes of him with it had already been taped. Keep in mind World Titles still meant something then, and Arn was suspended for his part. Somehow charges were never filed.
So for being the lead player in one of the most tragic and embarrassing nights in the industry’s history Sid wins the most harmful category.
Verdict
So Sid won the battle categories 3-2 but I will make the final decision about whether or not that actually cements him as the bigger douche bag than the Warrior. I should note, despite the numerous examples of A-Hole like behaviour I’ve listed, this is not all that could be written about these 2 on the subject, but this blog is already longer than the King James Bible, so it’s time to just declare the winner.
It’s a close battle since a strong argument can be made for both men. Since I believe it’s only because of 2 Cold Scorpio showed up that the Sid & Arn incident didn’t have the same tragic conclusion as the stabbing of Bruiser Brody by Jose Gonzales AKA Invader #1 I’m leaning towards Sid (also of special note is that despite that most heinous of acts, Vince McMahon put his WWF World Belt on Sid shortly after, definitely a strong douche move). So for that and all his other transgressions, The Ultimate Warrior in this case does the job in this battle of bigger douche, as your winner is Sycho Sid Vicious

According to Vader I saw on youtube that Sid and Arn story is backwards double A started the fight with Sid Arn had the scissors Sid got the better of Arn Sid tried to stop, Arn wouldn’t stop, so he got hospitalized. Sid came back to the bar wounded as well, Vader saved his life. Sid was fired, but Arn who was friends with Flair got to keep his job. This is according to youtube two separate interviews one with Vader, and one with Sid. Excuse grammar lazy typist
